- <p> DIED. Jay Ward, 69, co-creator of Rocky the flying
- squirrel, Bullwinkle the moose, Mountie Dudley Do-Right and the
- sinister spies Boris Badenov and Natasha Fataly; of kidney
- cancer; in Los Angeles. The high-camp cartoon characters
- invented by Ward and his partners gained a cult following among
- adults from the late 1950s to the '70s and, later, during the
- cartoons' reruns. "There's only one way for a hero to go,
- whereas you can have a lot of fun with a villain," Ward once
- declared. "Boris Badenov, for example, can say, `Somebody down
- there likes me.'"
